When transitioning from high school to college I think it is important to bring a laptop. In high school, I was able to use the library computers and my home computer when I had an essay to write or online homework. However, at college I found there are many more digital assignments and the library is often overcrowded. I personally have a mac pro and love it. Mac laptops’ have great protection against viruses and a lot of saving space. It is also important to remember that you do not have to bring everything from your room with you to school. Unless you are going to college overseas, there is a Thanksgiving break and many long weekends to return home for more clothes or anything forgotten throughout the semester. The first semester I transferred, I was so busy with transferring that I forgot my blanket. Luckily the dorms are well heated so I was fine until my parents were able to come and visit me with my blanket the next weekend. Sometimes packing for school can get chaotic so I think it is important to make a list of the items you are bringing with you to college so you can remember which items have already been packed. I have found a useful packing method is to put all my clothes in trash bags so that once I am unpacked I can throw the bags away without having to worry about extra bags or containers. I also think a trunk is another very useful item when living in the dorms. At my dorm, we were given a small closet and dresser each. This worked well for my clothes but I found my shoes had no where to go. I bought a cheap trunk from TJ Maxx and found it helped a lot with organizing the room and preventing clutter. The dorm rooms are usually pretty small so anything that helps compact your side of the room is very useful. I think making sure your packing is organized and that you have all the essentials will make your transition from high school to the dorms much smoother.
