Scholarships for Engineering Degrees in Texas

Engineering students in Texas are eligible for several scholarship opportunities.

Before you attend college in Texas for engineering, speak to your guidance counselor about scholarships for incoming freshmen. Professional societies and engineering departments of colleges have awards to help fund your college education. Merit and financial need are typically considerations for engineering scholarships. Once you are enrolled in school, you could also be eligible for scholarship money. Financial aid offices typically have listing of open scholarships for students.

Society of Women Engineers

High school women attending a Texas college and university are eligible for the Society of Women Engineers scholarship. You must major in science or engineering and reside from the Houston area. Five scholarship awards are given out on an annual basis, each valued at $500 annually. To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit your transcripts along with two essays. The scholarship is renewable for a total of five years as long as the student remains in the engineering department and keeps a minimum 3.0 GPA.

FORCES Scholarship

The FORCES in the scholarship name stands for Focus on Retention in Cohorts of Engineering Students. Incoming high school students are eligible for this award during their freshman and sophomore years in college. Award winners take classes together at the University of Texas at Arlington, receive peer tutoring and career counseling. Award amounts range from $2,000 to $10,000 per year. You must have achieved academic excellence in high school and plan to enter the School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington to be considered for this award. Financial need and academic record is reviewed to determine scholarship eligibility.

Texas Society of Professional Engineers

The Texas Society of Professional Engineers offers scholarships to students planning to attend a college located in Texas. Eligible high school students must attend a college that is certified through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and plan to study engineering. GPA required is a 3.0 and a minimum 600 math, 550 critical reading and 500 writing on the SAT. As long as you maintain good academic status, the scholarship is renewable.

The East Texas Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers

Graduating high school seniors who plan to major in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering or chemical engineering are eligible for this scholarship program. East Texas county residents are eligible for the awards. Freshmen receive $1,000 annually while upper classmen receive $2,000 yearly as long as they keep up good grades and continue to study engineering.
